We’re gearing up for the Post-9/11 GI Bill!

The Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33) is the most comprehensive educational benefit package since the original GI Bill was signed into law in 1944. Students who are eligible for the new program may begin using the benefits on Aug. 1, 2009, for training that pursued on or after that date. VA is now accepting applications for this program at www.gibill.va.gov

Please note that an application for VA benefits does not constitute an application for admission to an educational institution;

For Chapter 33, the full monthly Housing Allowance for UCR is currently $1690 per month.

*Click here for more information about "transfer of entitlement" to a spouse or child.*

Please read over this checklist and compete the following:

1.  Decide whether and when you want to switch to the Post 9/11 GI Bill from your current benefits program, if any.

While many eligible UC students will be better off with this new program, we urge you to review the information on the VA’s Web site thoroughly, as your Chapter 33 election is irrevocable.

For individuals eligible for MGIB-AD:

Normally, your months of entitlement under the Post-9/11 GI Bill will be equal to the number of months of entitlement you have remaining under the MGIB-AD. However, if you use all of your MGIB-AD benefits before applying for the Post 9/11 GI Bill, then you may be entitled to a maximum of 12 additional months of benefits under the Post-9/11 GI Bill. Check the VA's website for the latest information, or call them at 1-888-GIBILL1.

For individuals eligible for MGIB-SR and/or REAP:
Normally, individuals who are eligible for more than one benefit may use a maximum combined total of 48 months of benefits. Example: If you have used 20 months of benefits under REAP, you may be eligible for 28 months of benefits under the Post-9/11 GI Bill. Check the VA's website for the latest information, or call them at 1-888-GIBILL1.
