Application Fee Waivers for Incoming Students Called to Active Duty

If an incoming student is called to active duty, she or he may be able to obtain a waiver of the $60 University application processing fee.  The application fee can be credited toward admission in another quarter during the same academic year.  For questions or to see if you qualify, contact The Office of Undergraduate Admissions at (951) 827-3411.

Impact of Withdrawal on Financial Aid

For students called to active duty, the US Department of Education has modified the withdrawal requirements of colleges for the "Return of Title IV Funds" (the return of a portion of the federal student aid the student has received).  Contact the UCR Financial Aid Office at (951) 827-3878 for more information.

Student Loan Issues

The U.S. Department of Education has issued special guidance to lenders regarding students with Perkins Loans or FFEL/Direct Stafford Loans.  Members of the National Guard or Reserves who are ordered to active military duty should notify their lenders of their order to active duty or reassignment, to request extended loan deferments and/or forbearance while on active duty.

Release Authorization for Reservists Called to Active Duty

Students in the armed services reserves who think they may be called to active service should consider preparing a full-University release authorization that allows a parent, spouse, or friend to have access to the student's record and/or initiate University actions, such as a withdrawal, on the student's behalf.

Please be aware that the release authorization is intended to speed any bureaucratic processes that may present themselves during the student's absence from the University.  If the student does not authorize a release, the University is fully committed to working with the student to process actions "long distance" or after the students' release from service.  Any students with questions regarding the release authorization or how being moved to active duty will affect their enrollment status should contact the Registrars Office at (951) 827-3402 or (951) 827-7284.
